Welcome to Early Years.
I hope you all had a safe and relaxing February holiday and welcome back to another busy week in early years!
Learning about seasons and the weather is so much fun! Exploring temperatures and wind is fascinating for young children who are learning how the world works. Our questions are : Why don’t we have snow in the summer? Why does winter feel so cold? The student’s love the challenge of predicting the answers.
Our sound /letter of the week is O for octopus, owl, ocean, oranges, onions olives, oil, ox, otter, oven orchid, opposites
Don’t forget to attend our Assembly on Friday March 2nd .
Looking forwards to another great week.

This week in early years we will continue to look at the different seasons, exploring the weather in each season and discuss how the seasons affect our every day activities and the things that we eat. We will compare the daylight hours in summer and winter as well as introducing the concept of climates. At the beginning of the week, the children will go on a walk around the school. They will collect leaves and twigs which we will use to help us learn to estimate in maths and create pictures in art. Remember on Wednesday, is Valentine’s Day. We are excited for our ISM talent show, which is from 2-2:45pm on Wednesday and then the Valentine’s dance from 2:45-3:30pm. All parents are encouraged to come and see the amazing talent we have at ISM!
We are collecting items for people in rural areas who are in need of blankets, socks, shoes ,coats etc. Also donations of dry goods (rice, lentils, beans, flour, oil, etc.)will be accepted all this week. Please donate what you can to our food drive this week.
Our February holiday starts on Friday, February 16th! I hope you all have a safe and restful break. See you back to school on Monday February 26th.
We finished our unit and the students did a great job expressing themselves through stories. Their final project was to illustrate a story and present it to their classmates. They talked about the characters, the setting and the ending.
We have just started our new unit: How The World Works, this week we will be looking at seasons and weather patterns. Our sound of the week is D and we will be learning a new jolly phonics song.
Our World Read Aloud Day last week was fantastic. The students came to school wearing their pajamas and were excited listening to stories holding their soft toy. They were very good listeners. We would like to thank all parents who came and read to our students in English, French and Arabic.
