Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing spring break!
We are jumping back into our unit of inquiry, Sharing the Planet. Our class is busy deciding how we can teach other students (and our families at home) about human actions that impact the environment.
Next week is Earth Week and the Y1-2 students will be visiting the other classes to present their learning from this unit and hopefully inspire and encourage their fellow students to take action!
If any parent or family member has expertise in this area that they would like to share please let me know!:)
Parents will also be invited to attend our beach clean up field trip in Dar Bouazza next Tuesday- look for the permission slip to be sent home today!
In Maths we are continuing our inquiry into fractions. At home you can reinforce our learning by using fractions in everyday life. Ask your child to find one half or one quarter of an amount of small toys, change, or even foods!
In Daily 5 we will be using the Words Their Way program for the remainder of the school year to focus on the critical features of words – sounds, letter patterns, and meaning.
This program uses hands-on experiences to help students see and sort words by common patterns. Through word study, students examine, manipulate, and categorize words.
Research shows that children progress through developmental stages in reading, writing and spelling. Different students will pass through the spelling stages at different times and at different rates. Each stage has spelling patterns that are commonly used and sometimes confused. Our goal is to move your child along the continuum through weekly word study.
There is also a strong connection between the amount of time students spend reading and writing and growth in vocabulary and spelling achievement- which is why the other 4 components of Daily 5 are so essential and why we encourage you to read to your child every day!
Have a great week:)
