Our Winter Show is this Thursday at 7:00pm! The students have been working very hard in music to prepare some lovely performances for you. Students must arrive by 6:45. They should wear any warm winter clothing. There will also be a bake sale and winter craft sale at the show.
Our winter clothing and blanket drive will continue until the holiday so please continue sending in items if you have them.
This week we began our new unit of study, How We Express Ourselves. Our central idea is, “Celebrations and traditions are expressions of shared beliefs and values.” The lines of inquiry for this unit are: why people celebrate, features of traditions and celebrations, symbolic representations of celebrations and traditions, and what meaning people assign to celebrations and traditions. This week and next we will be defining some important terms related to this unit and brainstorming and describing different celebrations and traditions that we are familiar with in order to compare and contrast them and list the common features.
In maths we are working on data collection. We are learning how to take surveys and how to collect and represent data in pictograms and bar graphs. We are looking at different kinds of graphs and answering questions about them. In Daily 5 we are identifying different kinds of verbs and different tenses. We are also learning about how we use punctuation to enhance our reading.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
