We have had a great first day of our first full week of school. The students had a great time with Mr Moniz in PSPE and with Ms Achlim in Music. Please be reminded that our PSPE days are Monday and Wednesday and that students should wear their PE kits and have their hats on these days.
This week we will continue working on building our class community and setting routines that will be in place all year. Tomorrow we will practice logging on to our learning support websites, Raz-kids and Mathletics. I will send login information home in your child’s folder. Please store this information in a safe place for use at home. We are setting up routines for the Daily 5 program that we will be using for literacy. We are learning about the three ways to read a book. Ask your child to tell you what they are. We are talking about numbers that are important in our lives and the children will be making a “Me in Numbers” chart to display. The first maths topic we will be learning about will be place value.
Tomorrow we will begin our first PYP unit of inquiry related to Where We are in Place and Time. The central idea for this unit is: The Earth’s physical geography has an impact on human interactions and settlements. We will focus on the key concepts of form, causation and connection. Our lines of inquiry will be the variability of physical geography around the world, the relationship between location and settlement, and the impact of human interaction on the physical place. I am very excited to begin this inquiry with the students!
Have a wonderful week!
