This Thursday is World Read Aloud Day! We are very excited to celebrate this event with parent and teacher readers and a fun filled day of listening to wonderful stories. If you would like to come read to our students, please let me know as soon as possible so we can put you on the schedule. Thursday will also be a pajama day so that the students can be nice and cosy while they listen to stories.
Thank you so much to those of you who were able to come to our Celebrations Exhibition on Friday. The children were very proud of themselves and they did a wonderful job teaching their visitors all about the celebration that they chose to research. Pictures from this event and our past few weeks are up on the Weebly photos page.
We are beginning our new unit today. This will be an inquiry into How the World Works with a focus on light and sound. Our central idea is “Understanding the properties of light and sound allows people to make practical applications.” The lines of inquiry we will explore will be: what light and sound can do and how we use them, the relationship between air, light and sound, and how understanding of light and sound leads to scientific and technological advances. We will focus on the central ideas of function and causation and the learner profile traits of being thinkers and knowledgeable. This will be a very exciting unit with many chances to experiment and explore. I am excited to see where the students’ questions take us!
In maths this week we are looking at division as the inverse of multiplication. We continue to take times tests each day. Please help your child practice their times tables at home each night to improve speed and accuracy. It is important to have speedy recall of these facts so that we can move on to more advanced computations. In writing we will begin learning about procedural writing. In reading we will be looking at different story elements and doing a character analysis.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
