We have had a great start to our week! We are very excited about all of the new learning we are doing. Our new unit of inquiry is in the theme of How We Organise Ourselves. Our central idea is “People trade for a variety of reasons.” It will be an inquiry into the reasons why people trade, the development of money systems, and how and why people earn money. We began the unit by discussing trade and the difference between buying and bartering. We are exploring wants and needs and how we meet our needs.
In maths we have begun learning about fractions. We are learning about parts of a whole and parts of a group. We are also focusing on solving story problems and identifying important words that tell us what to do in a problem. To tie in with our unit we will also be exploring money over the next weeks.
In literacy we are learning about different types of figurative language. We have learnt about alliteration and simile and we are beginning to discuss personification, metaphor, onomatopoeia and idioms. We are learning to recognise these in poetry and stories and writing our own.
We also only have 2 weeks before the Spring Show! We will be practicing a lot over the next weeks and we look forward to seeing you all the evening of Thursday, 5 April. If you have not already sent your child’s black pants and white shirt for the show, please remember to send them in before Friday.
There are several other important dates to mark on your calendars as well:
