We are having a great week! I have a couple of reminders for the weeks to come. This Thursday or Friday will be the Islamic New Year holiday. Next Thursday 28 September is Open House at 7:00, preceded at 6:00 by a new parent orientation. More information will come home shortly about this event. Next Friday, 29 September at 8:30 will be our first morning assembly; our class will be singing a song about landforms that we wrote together.
This week we are working on place value in maths. We are writing numbers in numbers, words, tally marks and expanded form. We are reviewing adding and taking away tens and hundreds. We are also making up stories to go along with maths equations. In literacy we are using a program called the Daily 5. So far we have learnt about three of the five components: read to self, read to someone and work on writing. Ask you child to tell you about the three ways to read a book and how they sit to read to someone.
The students have really been enjoying our Where We are in Place and Time unit of inquiry. We have been learning the vocabulary associated with different landforms and bodies of water and looking at what these look like. Over the next days we will be creating our own islands that will have at least 5 kinds of landforms on them. We have also created movements to represent the landforms and written a song about them.
Have a wonderful week!
