We have a very busy couple of weeks ahead of us! This week we have MAP testing. Specific information was sent in an email regarding these tests. Next week, from 16-20 October, is Heritage Week followed by World Fest on Saturday, 21 October. An online survey was sent out today for Heritage Week and a volunteer sign up sheet will be coming home soon for World Fest. We look forward to learning about all of the wonderful cultures that make up our international school; events such as these help us create global-minded students who are knowledgeable about the world and respectful of differences.
This week we are wrapping up our first unit of study on where we are in place and time. The students will be planning and working on their final projects this week. It was briefly introduced today and we will be working on it all week during our unit of inquiry time. Their task is to decide which kind of settlement they would like to build and where they would build it, explain why they would build it in their location, what the settlers would do for work and food, draw maps of their settlements, and make a plan to build it. Finally, they will build their settlement using whichever materials they choose. They may need to gather some materials (boxes, sticks) from home, depending on how they choose to make their settlement.
This week we will continue working on mental addition and subtraction facts to 20 in maths as well as making pairs to 10 and pairs to 100. We continue to work on 1, 10 and 100 more and less than a number, specifically when crossing a place value (for example: 10 less than 105). During Daily 5 Literacy we are working on using adjectives and descriptive writing.
New pictures have been added to our Photos page. Have a wonderful week!
