Welcome to February! I can hardly believe that we are already halfway through this school year! I am very excited about the growth that all of our learners have made. However, now is the time for everyone to press harder as the end of the school year approaches.
Last week’s World Read Aloud Day was a super event. We had a full day of reading, as both the reader and the listener. At our year 5/6 WRAD event, all poets did a wonderful job presenting their poems at the Poetry Cafe. I will do my best to get your poet’s video on Seesaw, but as iPads will be used for MAP testing this week, it may not happen right away. I thank you for your patience.
This Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00 to 12:00, our class will be in the library doing our best on the MAP tests. Because of this timing, we will not have Daily 5 on those days and there will be no writing focus this week. There is no way to study for MAP tests, but coming to school rested, with a positive attitude, will make a huge difference. Don’t’ forget that reading every night has a positive impact on overall learning.
We will be working with adding and subtracting fractions this week (like and unlike denominators). As the mathematicians gain understanding, they will move on to finding fractions of a number. There may be occasional homework this week. All students are encouraged to share their learning with you on Seesaw, so please look for it.
The next two weeks leading up to the holiday are going to be busy. We are looking forward to a few BIG events at ISM:
As we begin our new unit of inquiry, I am asking for parents who have experience in ‘healthy choices’, ‘nutrition’, or ‘overall wellness’ 'digestive system' (physical, emotional, and mental health). Please contact me so that we can schedule you in to share with our class. If you know of anyone that I should contact, please let me know.
Thank you for your ongoing support of your learners. If you have any questions or concerns, please be in touch.
