I hope you all had a happy and healthy holiday! We will hit the ground running this week, so I hope our learners are rested and ready to learn.
The maths focus this week will be a quick review of fractions before moving into percentage and decimal equivalents. The students will realize that percentages are a way to work out part of a number. For example, 25% of something is one quarter of it. Extra practice in Mathletics is suggested.
Daily 5 promotes balanced literacy, and reading, writing, and speaking targets for each student are personal. This week, however, all students will be writing a persuasive piece (due next Monday). Persuasive writing is a form of nonfiction writing that encourages careful word choice, the development of logical arguments, and a cohesive summary. The skill of writing persuasively is important to the final unit of inquiry project.
The unit of inquiry mini-lessons this week will focus on the digestive system and overall wellbeing, which includes physical, mental and emotional health. If you are interested in sharing any of your knowledge of wellbeing, please let me know. We would love to have you come into our class.
Our unit GRASPS (unit of inquiry project) is posted in Seesaw for all students and parents to access. Each student should be posting a variety of learning events to share in this wonderful online portfolio, so please take a look. If you aren’t yet on Seesaw, please sign up now.
The field trip we took to film segments for the COBIS Travel Show video was fabulous! Special thanks to Ilyas’ mom and Helena’s mom for accompanying us. We couldn’t have done it without you. Editing of the video will happen this week and it will be submitted before the March 9th due date! I am very proud of each and every one of our talented actors and actresses.
Our class is hosting and MCing the monthly ISM assembly on Friday, introducing the other class’ performances as well as doing something ourselves. I hope you are able to make it on Friday morning at 8:30.
Have a great week!
