Today is International Day of Peace. On this day, the United Nations invites all countries and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the day and to commemorate the day through education and awareness. As our class continues to explore our central idea, "Finding peaceful solutions to conflict leads to a better quality of human life." we have gathered information about Nobel Peace Prize and the recipients, and will learn about the roles of the United Nations. If you have any expertise to share with our class, please be in touch with me. We would love to have you come in.
In math, your children have been reviewing place value (word form, expanded form and number) and addition and subtraction of larger numbers. Practicing the skills in Mathletics will help each child to be the best mathematician they can be. Next week the focus will be developing an understanding of decimals to three decimal places.
Daily 5 and CAFE support each learner by differentiating the skills. They have begun to learner about the writing process and about developing IDEAS for writing. Please encourage your writer at home to keep a journal or a book of thoughts and dreams. I also encourage parents to read with and to their child everyday.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the Open House next Thursday. On that evening, I will be setting up meetings with you. If you can't be at the Open House, please email me to set up a time to chat about your year 5 or 6 learner.
Have a wonderful first weekend of autumn with family and friends!
