Happy NEW Year! I hope that you had a fabulous time over the holiday with family and friends. We are kicking off 2018 with a great first week back at school.
If you took photos of your child reading over the holiday, please send them my way (email@example.com). I would LOVE to feature your reader in an ISM video or slideshow in the coming weeks.
This week the grade 5-6 students will begin preparing themselves for creating and curating cultural artefacts for our class museum. This is the culminating project for our unit of inquiry, that we started before the holiday. The central idea, Rituals, traditions and artefacts provide a window into the beliefs and values of cultures, will be explored through a variety of inquiry activities. Our “historians” will link the past to the present and communicate their findings creatively. Some options for creating include crafting, sewing, sculpting, drawing, composing, and choreographing. Please ask your child about his or her inquiry.
In order to support this, and to provide first-hand experience with a museum, our class will be taking a trip to the Musee de la Fondation Aderrahman Slaoui on Friday, Jan. 5th. We will leave the school at 9:30 and return in time for lunch. If your child has not returned the permissions slip or the 40 dhs, please do so on Wednesday, Jan. 3rd. Thank you for your support of your child’s real-world learning experiences.
Please be reminded that After School Activities begin next week (Mon., Jan. 8th). For your information, I will be involved in student activities on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you want to meet with me, I will be available all days before school or on Thursdays and Fridays after school.
We will be using Seesaw to document and communicate our learning in Year 5/6. Our use of Seesaw will likely start out slowly, but increase in quality and quantity as we all learn how best to use it. Your constructive feedback is appreciated.
Have a fabulous week!
p.s. You are always welcome to peruse our school library for books for yourself or your children. We have a nice collection that continues to expand. You may just find a perfect read!
