I hope you all weathered the storm over the weekend – it sure was ferocious in Dar Bouazza!
This week is another short week, with Wednesday being a half-day for students (12:15 dismissal) and Thursday a holiday for all.
After School Activities begin this week and they all look like they will be terrific! I have an ASA on Mondays so will not be available to meet with you then. If you want to set up a meeting, please contact me through email. Thanks.
Our unit of inquiry continues with each year 5 & 6 learner starting on their final project this week. Each person will be choosing an ancient artefact to replicate (to the best of our abilities) and beginning the design process. Once we have established the materials your child will need, he or she may be asking for your assistance to acquire some of the materials. Each project will be exhibited along with a multi-lingual description of it. The trip to the Abderrahman Slaoui Foundation Museum last Friday was a valuable opportunity for our students to understand how to exhibit artefacts. You are invited to visit our gallery of artefacts on Friday, January 26th after the Parent Workshop.
In maths, we will continue to explore factors, multiples and move on to tests of divisibility and square numbers this week. On Friday, there will be a quiz to gauge the children’s understanding of these concepts. Please remind your child to spend some time to review on Mathletics this week.
We will be reading, writing and interpreting poetry in the coming weeks, and hope to present to you in the first week of February. The COBIS (Council of British International Schools) 2018 Student Poetry Competition is now open with the theme "Through a Looking Glass" and our students are invited to write a poem that addresses that theme. I am hopeful that we will have a few students from our class enter their poetry. Your encouragement is appreciated. The deadline for submission is February 9th.
Our class is also interested in entering the COBIS Travel Show Competition. The brief includes, “We would love you to create your own segment for the 'COBIS Travel Show' and give us a unique insight into your local area. We want you to show us what makes where you live amazing and special and why people from around the world should visit where you live.” Though we have a lot of enthusiasm for this challenge, it will also be a lot of work. If you would like to be a part of this project, please let me know. For more information, please visit:
Have a great week! Please check your email for an invitation to Seesaw, our online portfolio.
