Thank you once again for your support of our ISM Museum of Artefacts on Friday. Exhibiting for parents is a phenomenal way to boost confidence! Each and every one of your children was very proud of their accomplishments. Year 5/6 ROCKS!
This coming week we have another wonderful event to share with you. If you aren’t able to adjust your schedule to attend our Poetry Café on Thursday, February 1st, we understand. If you are able to come, please join us at 11:15-11:30. Each year 5/6 poet will read 2 poems; one they have written themselves and another that they have chosen that was written by another poet. We will also have 2 special guest poets from our ISM middle school performing works that they presented at a recent competition in Fez.
Our Poetry Café is a World Read Aloud Day event. WRAD is a worldwide celebration of reading that we would would LOVE you to be a part of. We are asking you, as members of our school community, to volunteer time on Thursday morning, February 1st, to read aloud to our ISM students in a language of your choice. Each time slot is 20 minutes. You may choose to read once, twice, thrice or four times. Please let me know if you would like to participate.
Another World Read Aloud Day event is Pyjama Day. We will all be reading in our p.j.s. Everyone is welcome to bring a small blanket and a “stuffie” if they would like to … cuddle up and READ!
We will be reflecting on our last unit of inquiry and then moving on to our new one this week. The central idea is: the choices made by individuals and society affect growth and wellbeing. The major curriculum focuses are PSPE (health) and science, while all learning will be interdisciplinary. If you would like to have a part in our learning events, please let me know. We would love to have your share your expertise with us.
Our maths focus on fractions continues this week. We will be having a quiz in the coming days before we transition to decimals and percentages, and bring them all together.
Thank you to those of you who are getting on Seesaw. We will try our best to keep you updated on our learning. I am also just learning how to use Seesaw effectively, so we will work out the challenges together.
MAP testing is coming up next week (Feb. 5-9). While there is no specific way to prepare for the test, reading nightly is always good practice. Remember that your child has access to RAZkids and Mathletics at home to support their learning.
