Mabrouk Ramadan to all of you who are observing this holy month of Ramadan.
This week is MAP testing. The MAP, or the Measure of Academic Progress, is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth. It also helps students to set realistic goals and work towards meeting them. Our class will write MAP tests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:00. Please help your child prepare for the test by being well-rested and focused.
Each student in our class now has a school email account, with the Year 5 students just getting set up with theirs last week. Once the students have changed their initial password, I will share their email password with you. As the parent it's your right to have access to your child's email account. This is not an invasion of privacy, but rather a layer of safety. Mini-lessons this week will continue to focus on writing emails and using email features. The writing prompt this week is a formal email and is due on Friday.
The “back to basics” math review will wrap up this week with an assessment of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. These basic operations are still challenging for some of our budding mathematicians, so extra review at home will be assigned if needed.
All students have been given Running Records in the past couple of weeks to assess their independent reading level. It is such a pleasure to see the progress made. I applaud the parents who are encouraging their children to read nightly. Your support is appreciated.
The Year 6 Exhibition groups are working hard on their inquiries. There are many ways parents can help. Please ask your child about the Exhibition and how you can support the unit. We hope to have a meeting with year 6 parents after the Parent Meeting on Friday at 8:30 a.m. The date for the Presentation of the Exhibition is June 7th.
The Year 5 scientists will be inquiring into inheritance and evolution this week and then beginning to focus on a personal inquiry into the central idea.
There is a ISM Parent meeting on Friday at 8:30, in the library. We hope you attend.
