I hope you all are having an amazing weekend with family and friends!
MAP testing was completed last week, and your child knows his or her score for each of the 3 tests. Please ask your child about it. If you want more information, please be in touch with me.
As you read in Mr. Moniz’s letter to ISM parents last week, the WIDA test will be administered this week to those students who are relatively new to English. WIDA is a high-quality assessment that is used to determine the level of academic and social language development of children and youth who are culturally and linguistically diverse. The data is used to track language development and inform teaching of our students.
The Year 6 Exhibition groups are in the final phase of their projects. Thank you to those parents who have been working with their child to help them succeed. The PYP Exhibition, an in-depth inquiry into real-life issues or problems, is tentatively set for June 6th. We hope that all parents will be able to visit the Exhibition, as it is a unique and significant opportunity for students to exhibit the components of the PYP they have developed throughout their engagement with the Primary Years Programme. Celebrate the learning and growth of our year 6 students, Jihane, Omar, Sadio, Raneem, Elias and Ilyas.
The Year 5 students are inquiring into a unit of their own right now. This week they will choose the topic of their personal inquiry and then will embark of developing their knowledge and understanding. The following was written collaboratively: “I have chosen a plant or animal that I am curious about. I will inquire fully into the changes throughout the lifetime of it (reproduction and lifecycle) and what can impact the survival of the species (environment, genetics, humanity). These are important pieces of information that I will also inquire into:
In maths, the new focus is on ratios, proportion and scale drawings. Our mathematicians will use, interpret and make scale drawings. They will also write and use ratios and proportions and solve problems involving ratios and proportions. If you have any expertise in this area, either through personal interest or in your profession, we would love you to come into our class and share your knowledge.
This week we will trial a new catering company, Food and Food, to supply our school snacks and lunches. For those who are fasting, their lunch will be boxed and sent home to enjoy.
The monthly assembly is on Friday. Our class will be presenting their musical talents with the audience. Please come, if you are able.
This is the last week of After-School Activities. It has been a great year for our students to learn interesting skills while having fun with friends.
