Central Focus: Cells are the Building Blocks of all Living Things
Lines of Inquiry: Cells contain many organelles (Form), Cells are specialized (Change), and Cells are varied in types and function (Function).
Update: This week students will be able to rewrite their science test they wrote last Tuesday to improve their grade. Many students had not studied well for the test so this will be a one time opportunity to rewrite a science test on cells this Tuesday. The next unit is a physics unit on Energy. Students will learn about energy sources from food, the environment and minerals.
Central focus; Algebraic expressions help solve the unkown elements in a formula.
Line of Inquiry: Letters can be substituted for numbers in a formula to solve complex problems (Function). Using unknowns allows us to create formulas that can be applied to situations (Causation)Solving unknowns in algebraic equations helps identify patterns (Connection).
Students will be writing the test for a unit on Measurement this Wednesday. The test will cover converting units for distance, capacity, weight and time. We will be starting the next unit this week on algebra. Students will be writing algebraic expressions for word problems as well as solving algebraic expressions.
Central Focus: Design and Digital Citizenship are connected in how we perceive technology.
Lines of Inquiry: the Design Cycle helps us organize our thoughts and ideas when designing projects (Function), Being a Digital Citizen keeps us and others safe (Perspective), our digital world influences our digital connections to others (Connection)
Students have been learning about being a digital citizenship and the dangers of sharing information online. Students are also learning how to use advanced search engines to conduct in-depth searches.
Central Focus- Knowing our muscle groups can prevent injury and improve performance.
Lines of Inquiry: Large muscles groups can influence motor ability and speed (Connection), development of skills can improve performance (Reflection), cardio vascular systems can be developed through endurance activities (Function)
Students this week have focused on endurance and football skills while each taking a leadership role in discussing strategies in football. Students will view current grades and discuss how they can improve upon their grade.
