This is where you will find out what we have been doing in the Year 7 -8 class.
October 30-Nov. 127/10/2017
Parent Workshop- 27 October DP program
Here is the link to the power point that describes our high school program and DP.
Science, Math, Design and PSHE
Science 7 and 8 Central Focus: Energy comes in various forms and can be transferred.
Lines of Inquiry: Renewable and non-renewable resources transfer energy (Function), Clean energy is affordable and capable of solving world problems (Perspective). Water, Wind and Solar are clean energy sources (Form)
Update: There will be a test after the break on this unit. Students have created models for clean energy and are connecting their knowledge to creating models of clean energy.
Math 7 and 8
Central Focus; Algebraic equations help us write formulas to address patterns in the world.
Line of Inquiry: unknowns can be expressed as an expression (Form), Equations in algebra help us find the unknown (Connection), Formulas are written to identify patterns (Causation).
Students have been problem solving correct expressions and formulas for algebraic word problems. Students have also been simplifying algebraic expressions. There will be a math test on Monday 30 October on this unit.
Design 7 and 8
Central Focus: Science and design can be integrated to create clean energy models.
Lines of Inquiry: Models help us apply knowledge of clean energy (Function), Creating models allow us to solve problems, personally and globally(Reflection), Design allows experimentation, creativity and critical thinking to emerge (Responsibility)
Students have been researching clean energy and experimenting with clean energy models to solve UN Sustainable goal 7- Clean Affordable Energy. Students have been learning how to write a formal lab experiment and are using their models to test a hypothesis. Student experiments and models are due Wednesday Nov. 1.
PSHE 7 and 8
Central Focus- Skills can be applied to many different sports.
Lines of Inquiry: Movement skills can be applied to Touch Rugby(Connection), tactics change when new sports are introduced(Change), Cardio vascular systems can be developed through endurance activities (Function)
Students this week have focused on Touch Rugby skills and rules of the game.
