Speech and Debate, years 7 - 10
Central Focus: Resolutions and Research
Lines of Inquiry: Debate topic selection, debate research and debate format
UPDATE: Students got to form teams this week based on the experience of each student. Each team has one very experienced student to serve as captain; in this work each team is making their own plans for our round-robin debates in the following weeks.
Drama, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: Shakespeare Monologues
Lines of Inquiry: One monologue from Shakespeare's “Merchant of Venice;” meter and poetry
UPDATE: Students had another round of presentations this week and will continue to work with presenting their monologues. With each presentation, students receive feedback, self-reflect and make plans for improvements.
Humanities, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: IGCSE 20th Century History, WWI beginnings and overall scope of action
Lines of Inquiry: Causes and effects of WWI, alliances, implications of war and territory maps
UPDATE: This week we have a comprehensive IGCSE style test that covers the Germany Depth Study (one of four content pieces required for the IGCSE).
English, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: Shakespeare “Merchant of Venice”
Lines of Inquiry: Controversy with Shakespeare, plot overview and historical context
UPDATE: Students are mid-way in forming a MLA style essay. They have finished their drafting and will focus this week on editing and style. This essay writing will serve as a foundation for further academic writing.
