Speech and Debate, years 7 - 10
Central Focus: New topic in May!
Lines of Inquiry: Debate topic selection, debate research and debate format
UPDATE: We came back from Fez with a 3rd place win in Middle School Public Forum! Our students tried out many events and most students made it to semi-finals! We are ready for the tournament in May, hosted at London Academy in Casablanca.
Drama, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: Spring Show: Scherezade
Lines of Inquiry: Scene study, projection, enunciation, and character creation
UPDATE: Most recently, the 9 - 10 students have started to plan and direct the show. Today, they gave their first set of instructions for the first three scenes. They are starting to learn the big job of directing and are making a fantastic effort.
Humanities, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: League Of Nations
Lines of Inquiry: Benefits and failures of the League of Nations, Chronology of League of Nations
UPDATE: We just completed a very difficult essay based test and the students performed very well. The test asked the students to examine the League of Nations from the perspective of a historical analysis discussing, change, continuity, perspective, causation, and Significance and Consequence. Next up, students are examining the collapse of Europe in 1939.
English, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: IGCSE Poetry Analysis
Lines of Inquiry: Theme, Genre, Style, Meaning
UPDATE: The students are working very well in their poetry unit. They just completed a review of their writing and were evaluated on the IGCSE scale both demonstrating the ability to score very well on the test. They are learning how to answer the IGCSE questions directing while using supporting evidence and analysis. Next up, the class is examining short stories in the same modality for the IGCSE.
