Year 9 - 10 Blog
This is where you will find out what we have been doing in the Year 9-10 class.
Speech and Debate, years 7 - 10
Central Focus: Catalonia Independence
Lines of Inquiry: Debate topic selection, debate research and debate format
UPDATE: We are taking a break with debate so that there are more classes to prepare for the winter show. In January, we will be starting to research the topic of Catalonia Independence. Students that are interested will be invited to go to the Middle School Debate Tournament in Fez, January 20 and 21.
Drama, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: Winter Show
Lines of Inquiry: Scene study, projection, enunciation, and character creation
UPDATE: Students are now working on a series of scenes that will be presented at the winter show. The themes of the performances are about the holidays and helping people throughout the world. Students are learning to project, speak clearly, and present with purpose. We look forward to seeing you at the winter show, December 14th at 7pm.
Humanities, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: IGCSE 20th Century History, WWI beginnings and overall scope of action
Lines of Inquiry: Causes and effects of WWI, alliances, implications of war and territory maps
UPDATE: We have finished our studies of Germany and the USA between the wars. Students are now combining all their information into a large role-playing-game that simulates the events in Europe between WWI and WWII. It is certainly a challenge and worth all the hard work.
English, years 9 and 10:
Central Focus: Poetry Creation
Lines of Inquiry: Types of poems
UPDATE: Students are researching, and will soon be composing, their favorite types of poems. This week in class we have been creating the rubrics to evaluate the poetry that the students will write. The compositions will be based on one of six concepts: change, continuity, perspective, causation, consequence, and significance.
